Perfect Autumn Jackets
If we could have a sub-heading for this blog it would probably have something to do with “fashion no-nos" as well as what we love about autumn cover-ups. We’re going to focus on what gets us toe-tapping and dancing in our heels as we look at winter wraps.
Of course we'll also share our insider secrets on how you can get that stylist look and feeling from your seasonal jackets. With the early morning chill already making itself felt there’s no time to waste, so let’s flow with the changing season and get into discussing the different styles and how to own them for yourself.
Autumn on the South African landscape isn’t “bring out the heater cold”, but slightly chilly. We have been smitten with the sleeveless jacket or light coat best worn with the classic white shirt, skinny jeans, pumps or heels and awesome pedicure for that effortless dash to the shop look. You can accessorise it and pop up your hair to give it an elegant business casual feel.
Autumn is a time to showcase and embrace your femininity. This playful, yet sophisticated flower print hoodie, folded jeans and wedges captivated us, so much so that we had to add it to our collection. Lightweight trench coats
Lightweight trench coats (even the sleeveless variety) are great for slipping into when heading out to a business meeting or an evening out with the girls. Accentuate them by opting for pieces with interesting buttons and pockets, or belt them for an all-over outdoor look. Pumps and wedges work great when paired with well-fitting trousers.
Long jerseys – how to
Remember we said we were going to pin point the fashion no-nos; well here is a big one. We are sending out that uncomfortable gaze effect directed at offenders as we write. Don’t even consider wearing long jerseys as dresses if you have the fuller shape. Opt for the fuller, less body hugging jersey dress. Rather fit the long jersey with leggings or thick stockings, but dimpled thighs (and yes, we all have them) and long jerseys don’t quite complement each other.
Mannish tailor-fitted boy looks
We can’t believe we are adding this to the list, but it would be an injustice to leave it out. We are blown over by the new semi-formal tailor fitted mannish looks – they aren’t for everyone, but if you can carry it off this look is – well, manly!
As the weather begins to drop, perhaps for the evenings, we're marching along with the rise of military inspired jackets for both males and females. The detail is impeccable with fur collars, buttons of all shapes, fur collars, glittering badges and zappy zips.
What are date nights without leather jackets? Classic and a sure-fire option to keep you warm, leather jackets ooze style as the temperatures cool at night. Go for the classic leather jacket or jam up the heat a bit with some patches. Here’s our own handpicked selection.
Our last addition to make it onto this list has to be the non-jackets that come from thinking out of the box, or the back of your wardrobe. These can be lightweight and flowy throw-overs or something pronounced such as long fur vests.
Wherever you might be based, whether you are visiting us in Cape Town from far afield or a hardy Capetonian, keeping a wrap on your outfit is essential at all times of the year, after all – Cape Town is famous for its four seasons in day.
We’d love to hear how you fend off the seasonal chill. Better still send us some pics.
